Well, the Israeli cannabis tech startup Seedo has officially signed their new brand representative, and who better than the S to the N to the double O-P…Snoop Dogg?

The company said in a statement on Tuesday that Snoop Dogg will be working with the startup “on a variety of platforms” to “achieve optimal consumer awareness of this innovative technology.” Seems like a good match from the offset? Founded in 2013, Seedo developed a fully automated and controlled indoor growing device, perfect for stoners as it looks like a mini-fridge for pesticide-free agriculture markets with the first focus on cannabis but with wider applications. The product analyzes growth and optimizes conditions for cannabis and other plants for home and commercial use. Monitoring occurs via a smartphone app.

Snoop Dog said that “promoting a healthier lifestyle by providing my friends and communities with products that allow for growth in unused urban spaces is something I’m all the way down with.”

Snoop has been a cannabis advocate for years and his marijuana use has been a large part of his music and public image – one of his biggest hits includes “Smoke Weed Every day.” He also is constantly using his social media to post marijuana memes and references to his 36 million followers. Yep that’s the same audience who Seedo are trying to talk too. Seedo CEO Zohar Levy said “Snoop’s vast global following, industry influence and network reach will provide us with an invaluable resource for Seedo as we continue to grow. The synergy between Seedo’s products and Snoop’s platforms is truly natural,” Levy added.

According to Seedo, Snoop Dogg’s role will be to “educate consumers on the environmental benefits and social opportunity of Seedo’s home and commercial grow technology.” The partnership between the two will begin in Long Beach, California – Snoop Dogg’s hometown. The Israeli tech startup says the “mini-fridge” grows the marijuana from seed for 90 days without any human intervention. The device weighs between 120-140 pounds (54-63 kg) and is about 3.5 ft by 2 ft. One can buy the in-home device for $2,400.

Seedo has also signed a marketing and distribution agreement for Europe with Namaste Technologies, a Canadian global online cannabis marketplace, this summer and finalized a deal with retail innovation firm OutForm to optimize Seedo’s US distribution channels and supply chain. OutForm – which works with global retail leaders across industries, including Best Buy, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Home Depot — is set to introduce Seedo to retailers and consumers across the US.

With the slow global legalisation of weed, we’ll see more and more brands establishing themselves into the minds of a growing demographic. We predict a run on smoking celebrities partnering up with emerging cannabis brands and the ones that survive will be the ones whose values and purpose resonate. Does your brand have a brand ambassador or do you co-brand?  It could just be the quickest way to own a place in your customers’ mind.
